Daily Rantics

Two Months and One Week from today I will be Ms. Kala Bennett-Alexander.... or is it just Alexander?.....or do I just keep my maiden name?....

I have been really stumped with this whole "keeping your maiden name" thing, as I never thought I'd ever even consider taking another mans name.  I am an only child, and I would like to keep my father's lineage alive for his sake. Plus I have this feeling he wants me to keep my maiden name in there somewhere?

I was all gung-ho for being "Kala Bennett-Alexander" forever, but now that I think about it?....that's one hell of a last name. I mean think about it? Bennett alone is 7 letters, then you add the little hyphen (-), plus the 9 letters of Alexander and you get 17 letters for a last name.  That's kind of ridiculous don't you think?  Imagine the paperwork... even signing up for an Esso card will have my hand cramping, that is, if there is even enough space for my highly bloated last name. 

But I also don't want to be Kala Alexander.  I will miss being Kala Bennett. I feel if I drop the whole Bennett aspect of my name, I'm choosing to erase a part of my life that I just, don't want to.

Oh why must I hold all these modern day femenistic tendencies?

It also scares me that shortly after the wedding, I'll be signing purchasing paperwork for a house, and I don't even know what my signature is yet?! I've been Kala Bennett for the last 23 years, and now I have to go and change that, to something I'm not even sure I can pump out into a legible signature?  Of course, some of you out there are like "wtf, your signature is legible?" to which, I reply "yes of course it is, as its one of my pet peeves to not be able to read a signature". Just another one of my neuroses.

I really have no idea as to what I'm going to do. I'm crossing my fingers hoping I don't have to make this decision anytime soon as I am quite sure I am sitting on the proverbial fence at this moment.

Anytime soon you say? How about in TWO MONTHS AND ONE WEEK. fml.
