  • Guelph Humane Society Volunteering

    Thursday, June 3, 2010
Lately I have been feeling a little lonesome, missing a little furry four-legged companionship (Yeah, I have two cats but I want one that barks, haha) but it is not the right time for Adam and I to have a dog, nor are we aloud to have dogs in our building (insert frown here).

So I decided that I would volunteer at the local Humane Society here in Guelph.  Adam was worried I would come home with five cats, two dogs and an iguana, but so far, no animals have come home with me.

As much as I love the volunteer experience, it bothers me that their funding is so little.  I feel that the Humane Society deserves more community involvement and support, because they are definitely under funded.

The Guelph Humane Society runs at 166% capacity at any given time throughout the year.  That means that they are severely short staffed and short on space.  God bless them for being so caring and considerate for the animals, but I really think that either the government has to give them more grants and funding, or people need to open their wallets and help out.

They try so hard, and they do such a good job with what they are given, however I think the biggest problem they face at this present time is SPACE!  They have so many cats and dogs they don't know what to do with them.

But you can help!  This June 12th and 13th from 11am to 5pm at Stone Road Mall in Guelph, the Guelph Humane Society is hosting a "Feline Frenzy" Cat Adopt-A-Thon! They are looking for loving homes to come and adopt their cats that are in need of a home. I can vouch that are MANY lovely cats at the Guelph Humane Society right now, that definitely deserve a loving home.  I wish I could take them home as they are just such a joy to spend time with.

If you or someone you know wants to adopt a cat, please come check out the event during the weekend of June 12th and 13th to meet some of the great critters that are up for adoption.

If you aren't from the Guelph area, your local Humane Society also needs help, I assure you.  Please donate your time and money to them as they greatly need your help!
