Lady Gaga video debut
Firstly, I absolutely love this song. The first time I heard it I felt like it had been written by the millions of minorities across the world and their supports. I saw a lot of people connecting with the lyrics. Comes to show I was right. The showing of acceptance of the song was undeniably huge, some radio stations in Toronto playing it EVERY hour. Also, it sparked the interest in some very little, little monsters. One in particular is 10 year old Maria. She put her video on youtube of her belting out a beautiful rendition of Gaga's song, it brought me to tears.
She is not the only young fan enamored with this song, and that's great, it spreads equality, which I'm all for.
The one and only problem I have with this phenom is... The video.
Its quite.. Grotesque and out there, which I have come to expect from mother monster, but I really really felt it was a little too grown up for the audiences (like little Maria) she is pulling in. The first little bit let's you experience what I interpreted to be Gaga birthing...an alien or something, goo and all, over and over. Were all use to her prancing in her undies, that's ok, but I couldn't get over the birthing thing. I just couldn't. I wondered during the vid if little Maria was sitting staring at the screen trying to comprehend what her idol was really trying to portray. Being born this way and accepting it is swell, but we don't need to witness the birth, like... Literally.
Anyway, I know we expect intense and controversial material from Gaga but, I was hoping with all the interest coming toward her from children everywhere she would have kept the video pg. This boarderlines 18a.
So. There's my condenced opinion as I walk down Trafalgar on this beautiful cold first day of March.
I still love you mother monster, and born this way is my new anthem, but I'm 24 and can rightly interpret what's on the tv more clearly than a 10 year old..m or so I hope so.
Cheers,
K
